I studied music and drama at Brunel University, with flute and singing as my specialties. I sang with the BBC Symphony Chorus for ten years, including being Hon. Secretary. I qualified as a teacher in 2004, and worked for the Hampshire Music Service for 11 years as a specialist classroom music teacher.

My teaching is about more than just 'learning an instrument', it embraces everything to help you become a well-rounded musician. Each lesson not only encompasses core musical skills, including technique and notation reading, but also other key essentials such as sight reading, aural awareness, musical theory and improvisation. I come from the classical genre, but use all types in lessons and happily include music that interests you.

Music is nothing if not shared, so I encourage my students to play with other musicians whenever they can. This complements individual learning by developing confidence, listening skills and meeting fellow musicians! I run group workshops or lessons to give students just this opportunity.

Testimonials

What My Students Say

  • Rayner Music is a very good place to be and I cannot recommend her professional services enough. Her enthusiasm for making music, encouraging and educating is a very special attribute.

    Paul

  • I loved my lessons with Louise and was so sorry when they had to come to an end. I still miss the laughter!

    Mary

  • I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Louise Rayner for a long time. Louise is full of energy, enthusiasm and is always smiley. Her enthusiasm for making music, encouraging and educating is a very special attribute.

    Mr Smith

  • Louise has a uniquely engaging way of teaching and tailors her style to each individual child. My daughter has thrived in the 5 years that Louise has been teaching her and she always looks forward to each lesson because she knows that she will have fun, that her confidence will be boosted and that she will come away with a better understanding and appreciation for the music that she is learning to play.

    Luce

  • Louise has a fantastic way with teaching music both for children & adults and her passion for her craft shows in everything musical she touches. She is patient and sensitive to the fact that every musician's journey, pace & ability is different and her group lessons are fun and challenging, encouraging improvement but never overwhelming. As a one to one teacher she brings the best out of her students, tailoring her lessons to each player's personality and fostering a great work ethic & a want to improve in all her students. I would recommend her to anyone from beginner to returning adult player who is looking to enjoy making music at whatever level whilst improving their skills.

    Sharon

  • Taking up an instrument later in life, never having read music, has been an interesting challenge. Whilst I'm sure I must drive Louise to distraction she has always been extremely patient. Never making me feel that I can't do it and always encouraging me when I have moments of self doubt. She seeks to find innovative ways to explain rhythm and music theory to enable me to progress and unlock the pleasure of playing the sax.  I really couldn't wish for a better teacher!

    Cathy

  • Louise has encouraged me and given me confidence to play. Lessons are fun and supportive and it is a joy to play in our saxophone group.

    Joan

  • Hannah looks forward to her lessons with Louise. Louise's love of music is infectious and Hannah is enjoying being challenged and helped as she learns to play the flute.

    Janet

  • George has flourished under Louise's teaching. She has fostered a genuine love of music and George can now play some beautiful pieces on his flute, which he takes great pride in sharing. Louise has a professional but easy going manner that puts her pupils at ease and brings out the best in them. Thanks Louise

    Rob

  • I have been a student of Mrs Rayner since I was 7 and I can honestly say she's a fantastic teacher. She's so enthusiastic and makes lessons such fun. Even though I'm now 17 I still have private tuition with her for flute and am part of her Flute Ensemble at the Weekends.

I recently took my music GCSE and Mrs Rayner went out of her way to really help me with additional support for my composition and performance. I can't recommend her enough!

The Bungalow, School Lane, Yateley, GU46 6NN

The Bungalow Studio is the only residential property on the same side of the road as the schools. The postcode, if using Sat Nav, will take you to Yateley School, which is too far!! The Bungalow is the first turning on the left, before the first speed hump, as you come into School Lane from Yateley Village OR the last turning on the right if you are driving down School Lane with the schools on your right.
